I Hate To Question A Legend But Jaromir Jagr Kinda Sucks At Driving The Zamboni
Let me first off preface this blog by saying that there are very few people in this world who are more important to me than Jaromir Jagr. I’d jump in front of a bullet for this man so fast you’d think I was Connor McDavid out there (can you tell how hard I worked on that joke?). But with that being said… this clip of Jagr driving a zamboni has been making its way around the internet. Technically I guess he’s driving an ice resurfacer since “Zamboni” is just the name of a specific manufacturer of ice resurfacing vehicles. So if this particular ice resurfacer isn’t made by Zamboni then it would be like calling any ol’ car regardless of make a “Honda”, when in fact this is a Toyota. Either way. Jags is driving the ice resurfacer but as you’ll see in that clip, he fails to do the one thing this vehicle was designed to do–resurface the ice.
You’ll see that as Jagr is operating the vehicle, the conditioner is still above the ice surface. The conditioner is where all the magic goes down. This is where the water is fed down to in order to actually rinse/wash the ice. Without the conditioner being lowered down, you’re just driving a big ass truck on a sheet of ice. You’re not doing anything to actually clean or resurface the ice. You think about guys with as powerful strides and edge work as Jaromir Jagr, and you think about how much they cut up the ice every time they’re on there. It’s pretty much just a field of snow after 20 minutes or so. And the best Jaromir Jagr is doing here is just packing down that snow with the Zamboni’s tires. Seems pretty inefficient to me.
And again. I realize that Jaromir Jagr is a legend. I love and respect that man’s greatness. And if he thinks this is the best possible way to resurface the ice, then I’ll take his word for it. All I’m saying is that I’m skeptical and a bit hesitant to believe him.
